Transfer GoDaddy Emails to Gmail or Google Workspace

If you want to migrate from GoDaddy to Google Workspace or a personal Gmail account, in addition to setting up a new Google Workspace or Google account, you'll need to transfer your email history from one service provider to the other.

In this article, we explore the two ways of transferring your GoDaddy emails to Gmail: automatic and manual. To ensure that no content is lost when you switch to Gmail, we also provide the instructions for setting up email forwarding from GoDaddy to Gmail and importing your GoDaddy contacts to the newly created Google account.

Option 1. Migrate GoDaddy emails to Gmail automatically

The easy way to transfer all emails from a GoDaddy account to Gmail or Google Workspace is to set up an automated migration using VaultMe.

VaultMe is a simple migration tool that copies emails and email folders between online accounts. The app requires no manual work. All you have to do is connect your accounts to the app in a browser and start your migration.

Unlike the manual option that will be discussed below, VaultMe has many advantages:

  • It copies GoDaddy emails along with email folders (both system and custom) while retaining formatting, attachments, dates, and read/unread status of emails
  • It's extremely fast, reliable, and secure
  • It generates a detailed migration report allowing you to verify the results after the migration
  • It doesn't delete emails in GoDaddy or make any other changes to the GoDaddy email account
  • No download or installation is required as the app works in a browser

Cons of the automatic process:

  • A paid service, but worth investing in, according to customers' reviews

To migrate GoDaddy Workspace emails to Gmail automatically:

  1. Navigate to the VaultMe app.

  2. Select IMAP as your source service provider. This option will only work for accounts hosted by GoDaddy (GoDaddy Workspace). If your GoDaddy email account is hosted by Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Outlook), scroll down to the next section of the instructions.

  3. Select Google or Google Workspace as your destination service provider.

  4. Connect your accounts. For your GoDaddy account, use the following settings: name – your full email address, password – your email account password, host – imap.secureserver.net, port – 993.

  5. Start a migration. Feel free to close the browser or even turn your computer off. You'll get an email in your Gmail account when your migration is complete.

To migrate GoDaddy Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Outlook) emails to Gmail automatically:

  1. Navigate to the VaultMe app.

  2. Select Microsoft 365 as your source service provider.

  3. Select Google or Google Workspace as your destination service provider.

  4. Connect your accounts. VaultMe will use the safe OAuth 2.0 protocol to connect to your accounts so your passwords will not be exposed to the app.

  5. Start your migration.

VaultMe will not redirect messages received in GoDaddy after the migration to Gmail. If you are switching from GoDaddy's email service to Google Workspace, you need to change MX records in Google Workspace after the migration to redirect your mail. If you have difficulty configuring your account, contact Google Workspace's support for assistance.

Option 2. Transfer GoDaddy Emails to Gmail manually with an email client

This method may produce inaccurate results. Consider the limitations of this option and back up any critical data before you start.

Using an email client, you can export your GoDaddy emails to Gmail's servers. If you are using a Microsoft account, you probably have the Outlook app installed on your computer, but you can also use other desktop applications (such as the free Mozilla Thunderbird) to copy your GoDaddy emails.

However, you should consider the following limitations of this method before you begin:

  • Depending on the size of your email account, the migration process may take several hours or even days.

  • Your computer will have to stay powered on at all times. Disruptions in the power supply or broadband connection can cause the process to fail.

  • The copying process may slow down the work of your computer and cause it to overheat.

  • You will need to have enough free storage space on your hard drive for a copy of your GoDaddy email account.

To transfer emails from GoDaddy to Gmail manually:

  1. Open the Outlook app on your computer and ensure that you are signed in to your GoDaddy email account.

  2. Export your Outlook emails to a .pst file and save it on your hard drive.

    1. Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export > Export to a file.
    2. Save the file. On a Windows machine, the .pst file may be automatically saved to the default "My documents" folder.
  3. Enable IMAP in Gmail.

  4. Connect your Gmail account to the Outlook app.

    1. Go to File > Info > Add account.
    2. Sign in to Gmail.
  5. Import Outlook emails to Gmail.

    1. Select your Gmail account in the left-hand menu of the Outlook app.
    2. Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export > Import from another program or file. The menu options may be different depending on your version of Outlook.
    3. Select the previously downloaded email archive and wait for the import to finish.
  6. Check the results in Gmail.

Option 3. Add a GoDaddy Email Account to Gmail
